For a number of years Michael has been a popular producer/presenter of Irish music and heritage radio programmes.
His initial radio experience was gained in making periodic broadcasting contributions to Hospital and Local radio stations in the Birmingham/Midlands area of England.
CRC FM – Castlebar, County Mayo
Subsequent to his return to Ireland to live, and in May 2007, he joined CRC FM a community radio station based in Castlebar, County Mayo. There he presented live the weekly Country music programmes “Nice ‘n Country”, “Stateside Country” and, latterly, the five nights a week “Fox Country”, all of which enjoyed popular listenership in the station’s local broadcast area and, particularly, on the worldwide web.
For a period, he produced and presented, the station’s “breakfast” magazine programme “Morning Miscellany”, a mix of popular music from the 50’s to the present day, news, interviews and special features.
From time to time, he fulfilled the role of “roving” reporter contributing news and interviews to the station’s output.
Whilst at CRC FM, he also originated, produced and presented, with funding from the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (now the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland) under its “Sound & Vision” Scheme, a number of radio programmes based on stories written and published by him, in various magazines and journals, on Irish heritage, history and rural topics.
Prior to moving on from CRC FM, at the end of June 2011, Michael had joined the Board of the station making a valuable contribution to the management and direction of the station.
MidWest Irish Radio – Ballyhaunis, County Mayo
In July 2008, Michael was invited by MidWest Irish Radio, a dedicated internet radio service operated by regional radio station MidWest Radio, to join their broadcast team. Whilst there, and until that service was wound down towards the end of 2010, he produced and presented the popular 4 hour Saturday afternoon request programme “Into the West”, featuring Irish Country music, folk and ballads, traditional and Showband music, and music from the Irish Diaspora.
Irish Country Music Radio – Limerick
Michael has joined the team of presenters at Irish Country Music Radio, Ireland’s Number One Irish Country music internet radio station, establishing its County Mayo broadcast facility. He currently presents live from his studio in Foxford Co Mayo a popular three times weekly request programme “The Green Fields of Ireland”, featuring Irish Country music, folk and ballads, traditional and Showband music, music from the Irish Diaspora and live interviews.
Broadcast times: Thursdays: 5 pm to 8 pm / Saturdays: 1 pm to 5 pm / Sundays: 8pm to 11pm / Tuesdays: 11pm to 1am
